Training Tips

Palmball is perhaps the easiest, the quickest, the most exciting and the safest sport in the world.

Anyone can enjoy playing Palmball. From beginners to accomplished sportsmen and sportswomen.

You only need a soft ball (about 6 cm in diameter) to start training against a wall.

Before acquiring proper equipment for playing palmball (the impact sensitive target board and the computer software for recording the score) you can either draw a 40 cm in diameter cercle to serve as a target, or use a thin disc (about 4 mm) made of plywood. The latter can be easily fixed on a wall using self-adhesive tape or velcro.

Distance from the wall (2 m) can be marked on the floor using sel-adhesive tape. As in most racket games (in Palmball, the palm of the hand is considered as a natural racket) the play starts with a service. The ball is thrown in the air with one hand and hit after that with the other hand.

When the ball is in the air, the player exercises mainly the upper part of his body (hands, arms, shoulders and chest). When the ball falls on the floor, the player exercises the abdomen and the lower part of the body (bottom and legs). It is very important for the player to keep the back straight and to bend at the knees when picking the ball.

The elements to watch out for improving your game are: the power of the hit, the accuracy (whether the ball hits the target or not) and the angle (the ball falls obliquely on the target in order to reach the other hand). The last element is the speed which should be concentrated upon after mastering the first three points in order to improve further the scoring potential.
